Painting the Figure - An Intuitive Approach
March 1-4, 2012 (9am-4pm) — Kevin Beilfuss, graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and OPA Regional and National award recipient, comes to Atlanta for a four day figure workshop. The figure is a subject to which he is drawn. Lighting, color, symbolism will be explored. Basic figure drawing skills required. In this workshop Kevin will emphasize a more intuitive way to look at drawing and painting. Learning to see 'impressionistically' -the ability to 'suggest', rather than 'render' the subject will be explored. This approach involves many quick drawing and painting exercises from both the nude, and clothed figure, as well as having students work on more finished paintings during the course of the workshop. Demonstrations will be done every morning. Visit website

Painting the Figure Inside the Studio and Out in the Field
April 12-14, 2012 (9am-4pm) — The figure is the subject with focus on improving drawing skills, seeing values and color correctly and understanding their relationships. The costumed figure will be painted outdoors and in a studio setting. There will be daily demonstrations in oil emphasizing the big shapes and establishing their relationships correctly. This will become a springboard to adding additional information if so desired. Peggi addresses design and techniques in a manner that artists can then use to express themselves in a personal way. We will cover a lot of canvas- burning mileage by painting smaller sizes. I believe that more is learned through many small starts than by laboring over a large canvas. Students will receive plenty of one-on-one instruction and individual demonstrations as needed. Visit website

The Language of Landscape Painting: En Plein Air
September 14-16, 2012 (9am-4pm) — Along with demos on aspects of painting the landscape, (design, drawing, color strategies, different light conditions, light and shadow depiction, edge work), students will receive personal instruction and insight on their work. This class will be painting in the field, but in the event of rain, bring your own personal photos. A note from Terry's blog: One of the beautiful things about thick paint oil painting is that it is almost infinitely editable. I say almost because if it gets too thick, surface texture becomes more and more a problem. Or an issue, anyway. But my paint application usually stays within a manageable range in terms of paint buildup and texture, so I can make changes whether it's still wet or after it's dry. Visit website
